Major game results (Opening Day & Week #1)

May 3
Friday play is something new.  Let's see how teams handle it.

Mets       0 0 0 1 4 0 - 5
Marlins  4 0 3 1 0 x - 8
It got a little scary for the Marlins at the end.  But their pitchers outlasted the Met comeback.  Michael Hynd reached base 3 times.  Ryan Holihan cracked 3 hits, including a double.

Padres    2 0 2 0 2 1 - 7
D'Backs 3 0 1 0 1 0 - 5
The usual hitters at the top of the Padre order got a 2-3 assist from Drew Nida in the # 9 spot.  Back-to-back HBP of Knevaeh Feinberg and Robert Reitz led to the runs that made up the winning margin.  Ian Williams and Easton Carr doubled for the Pads.  Lucas Pace reached 3 times on errors for the D'Backs.

Guardians  0 1 1 1 2 3 - 8
Reds          0 0 0 1 2 0 - 3
Jimmy Hurley's solo Home Run and 10 strikeouts weren't enough for the Reds.  Clay Casto motored around for 2 Guardian triples.  Mikey Grady posted a 3-3 with a triple and struck out 4.   Mason Stroup had a great 3-3 night.

May 1
Dodgers  0 0 0 1 1 0 - 2
Mets       4 0 0 3 0 x -  7
George Brown, Liam McKelley and Emmerson Giammarco sandwiched first inning hits between a pair of Dodger errors, and that pretty much was the ballgame.  Tyler O'Brian homers in the 4th to add insurance runs.  George Brown strikes out 8, walks 1.

Marlins   0 0 0 0 0 0 - 0
Padres     2 0 3 0 4 x - 9
Padres pitchers Lewis Giammarco and Robert Reitz did not walk a batter, while striking out 15.  Reitz and the Marlin's Michael Hynd each tripled.

D'Backs       0 0 0 0 0 4 - 4
Guardians    2 1 2 3 1 x - 9
Logan Maierhofer set the tone as the leadoff batter went 4-4 with 2 doubles.  Clay Casto, Levi Palone, Mikey Grady and John Baker all collected pairs of hits, as did the D'Back's Oliver Conley.

April 29
Beautiful weather.  Everyone in pretty good spirits.  We start the regular weekday schedule just the way we'd like for things to go.

Padres        0 1 0 0 0 0 - 1
Guardians  7 1 0 2 1 x - 11
You want to win a LL game?  Just get 13 strikeouts from your pitchers (Lukas Villilo, Mikey Grady, Levi Palone) and limit the other team to 4 walks and 1 hit.  And then pound out 14 of your own hits (Logan Maierhofer 4, Palone 3.)  Works every time.  Maierhofer clubbed a double and a triple.  Clay Casto, Villilo, Palone and the Padre's Ian Williams racked up doubles.

Dodgers   4 0 5 1 0 0 - 10
D'Backs   0 0 3 0 0 1 - 4
Dodgers rushed out to a big lead, mostly by stacking singles and D'Back fielding miscues one after the other.  Henry Bing was the only player to reach on 3 hit balls.  D'Backs Lucas Holloway and Lucas Pace stopped the bleeding over the last 4 innings.  Tony Kenst and Oliver Conley (double) each reached bsae 3 times in a losing cause.

Mets    0 0 0 2 1 1 - 4
Reds    0 0 0 1 0 0 - 1
In a game without a lot of opportunies to score, the Mets were able to push their baserunners around while the Reds stranded theirs.  Liam McKelley fought through some wildness (4 walks), but struck out 8 to stay in command.  Mets pitchers Bobby Hurley and Jake Dietrich both set down 5 batters on strikes.  The Met's Ryan Holihan was the only player with 2 hits.

Opening Day
So many good things today - weather, fields, ceremony.  Something new - 20 players were awarded 6 -yr patches for their uniforms.  These families have remained loyal to NCLL through Covid, through travelball temptations, and especially, through 6 years of Rookie/Minors/Majors.  Look for the spiffy #6 patch they'll be sporting on their right sleeves.

Marlins   3 4 0 1 0 0 - 8
Reds       1 0 3 0 1 3 - 5
Marlins take the second game of their doubleheader.  Michael Hynd collected 6 total bases with his 3 hits.  The Red's Braxton Campbell actually topped that with 2 doubles and a triple.  Parker Romigh tripled for Reds.  Luca Sittler and Carter Houston added doubles.  Marlin's pitching led by Michael Hynd with 7 strikeouts and 2 walks.  Reds had Campbell strikeout 6 and walk 1, while Bobby Hurley set down 4 without a walk.

D'Backs  2 5 2 0 0 0 - 9
Mets       0 0 0 3 0 7 - 10
Come-from WAY behind win for Mets.  Mets didn't get on the board until George Brown's 4th inning dinger.  But the 6th was magical with 7 hits, 1 ROE and 2 walks.  2 hits in the game for Ryan Holihan, Brown, Emmerson Giammarco (triple) and Ethan Priddis.  Holihan pitched 3 innings, striking out 8 without a walk.  Brown set down 4 batters with just 1 walk.

Marlins   2 0 3 0 1 0 - 6
Dodgers  1 1 3 8 0 x - 13
Marlin defense gives this one away, committing 10 errors and bunches of passed balls/wild pitches.  The Dodger's Henry Bing reached 3 times.  Ben Stenger  had a pair of clean knocks, as did JD Mathews.  Luca Sittler reached base each time up, and scored 3 times for the Marlins.  The Dodger's Jagger Scala struck out 6 and walked none. Carter Houston paced the Marlins with 6 k's and no base on balls.

Guardians   3 0 0 0 0 0 - 3
Padres         2 0 2 0 0 x - 4
Pitching duel with Padre's Robert Reitz & Knevaeh Feinberg outdueling the Guardian's Logan Maierhofer, Mikey Grady and Lukas Villilo.  Maierhofer & Clay Casto started the season with extrabase hits to stake Guardos to their lead.  But Padres chipped away 2 in the bottom of the inning and 2 more in the 3rd to account for all the scoring.  Feinberg doubled in the middle of that inning to go along with his 9 strikeouts and 0 walks.
